Manglik Dosha: What It Means and What to Actually Do

The planet Mars against a black sky

Manglik Dosha (also called Mangal or Kuja Dosha) forms when Mars sits in certain houses of the birth chart — typically the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th from the Ascendant, and sometimes counted from the Moon or Venus too. Because Mars is fiery and assertive, tradition links this placement to friction in marriage if it isn't understood.

The part most people miss

Manglik Dosha very often cancels or reduces. If both partners are Manglik, the effect is widely considered neutralised. Certain placements, aspects from benefic planets like Jupiter, Mars in its own or exalted sign, and other combinations can also soften or remove it entirely. A blanket 'you're Manglik, marriage is doomed' is almost always fear, not astrology.

Sensible remedies

  • Matching with another Manglik chart, where suitable.
  • Strengthening or pacifying Mars — mantras such as the Mangal mantra, and Tuesday practices.
  • Red Coral (Moonga), only if the whole chart supports it.
  • Traditional pujas performed with the right intent and timing.
Manglik is a condition to understand and manage — not a life sentence. Most cases are far gentler than the panic around them.

The right step is a calm, full analysis of both charts to see whether the dosha is even active, and what — if anything — genuinely needs balancing.
